There are many other organizations at UCLA that help undergraduates experience the world of research. Check out these amazing opportunities!
CityLab:
An educational outreach program led by UCLA undergraduates that provides Los Angeles high school students with hands-on biotechnology opportunities in a laboratory setting. This organization aims to introduce these students to scientific inquiry and critical thinking in creative ways, and educate them on possible career paths that involve STEM fields. This program requires applicants to be sophomores who have taken (or are currently enrolled in) LS3.
International Circle of Genetics Studies (ICGS):
An international organization that conducts clinical and literature research in cytogenetics under Dr. Carlos Tirado. Members get to present their research at various national conferences, like the American Society of Human Genetics in the fall. Members also work together throughout the year to organize an internatonal scientific conference in Peru every two years.
Undergraduate Science Journal (USJ):
A student-run academic journal that features original research and review articles written by undergraduate student authors. Members of the USJ staff are involved in scientific peer-review of submitted articles, editing of such articles, and the layout of the printed journal.
The Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS):
An inclusive national organization founded to facilitate the success of Chicanx/Latinx, Native American, and other underrepresented scientists. SACNAS members aim to increase the number of students entering the science education and career pipeline through local outreach to K-12 grades in the Los Angeles area.
